Benetti: Everything You Need To Know

You want a yacht your family can live on for weeks at a time, built by a yard that will still be answering the phone in twenty years. That's who Benetti builds for: steel and GRP superyachts from 34 to 72 metres. Here is our expert assessment of the brand.

If a client walked in tomorrow with the budget and no fixed idea, I would put them on the B.NOW 60M. It is the point in the range where the Oasis Deck stops being a clever feature and starts being the reason the boat works: 12 guests in 6 cabins, 4,500 nm at 11 knots, and a 2.90 m draft that still gets you into the Exumas. The 67M is the better boat on paper. The 60M is the one people actually use.

The honest trade-off here is not the purchase price, it is the 500 gross ton line. The B.NOW 52M is engineered to sit just under it at roughly 499 GT; the 60M sits at 1,080 GT and the 72M at 1,950 GT. Crossing that threshold changes your crewing, your certification regime and your annual bill for as long as you own the boat. Decide which side of that number you want to live on before you fall for a layout, because the layout will win the argument otherwise.

Against the German and Dutch yards at similar money, Benetti trades a little full-custom precision for two things I value more for most buyers: a build slot you can realistically get, and a resale market that already understands the product. Lurssen and Feadship will draw you a one-off. Benetti will hand you a boat this decade.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Benetti the right call against a Dutch or German custom yard?

It depends on whether you want a one-off or a delivery date. Benetti builds these lines in series, which gives you published layouts, settled engineering, an existing service network and a build slot you can realistically get. A full-custom northern European yard will draw a boat entirely around you, and will usually ask for more time and more money to do it. Our view: if you already know how you cruise and you want to be aboard sooner, the semi-custom route is the better trade. If the build is as much the point as the cruising, go custom.

How many crew will I need to run one?

Benetti publishes crew accommodation model by model, and that is your practical floor. The Oasis 34M sleeps 7 crew in 4 cabins and the Oasis 42M 8 to 9 in 5 cabins. In B.NOW it is 10 crew in 6 cabins on the 52M, 13 in 9 on the 60M, 17 in 10 on the 67M and 17 in 8 on the 72M. The B.YOND 40M houses 9 crew in 6 cabins and the 57M 13 in 8. Crew is the largest single line in an annual operating budget at this size, so read those numbers as a running cost rather than a spec.

How do the Oasis, B.NOW and B.YOND lines differ?

Hull material, size and purpose. Oasis is the GRP beach-club line, 34.36 m and 42.5 m, drawing about two metres and built around the Oasis Deck aft terrace. B.NOW is the steel and aluminium semi-custom programme, 51.5 m to 72 m, also organised around the Oasis Deck, carrying 12 to 16 guests. B.YOND is the voyager line, 39.9 m and 57 m, with Siemens E-Mode hybrid propulsion and 5,000 nm of range at 10 knots. Put simply: Oasis for water access and shallow anchorages, B.NOW for volume and entertaining, B.YOND for distance.

Which Benetti goes furthest on a tank?

The two B.YOND voyagers. Both the 40M and the 57M are rated at 5,000 nautical miles at 10 knots, the longest legs Benetti publishes across these eight models. The four B.NOW models each carry 4,500 nm, quoted at 10 knots on the 52M, 11 knots on the 60M and 12 knots on the 67M and 72M. In the Oasis line the 42M covers 4,000 nm at 10 knots and the 34M 2,700 nm at 10 knots. Every one of those is a displacement-speed figure, so range and cruising speed pull against each other.

Can a yacht this size still get into shallow Bahamian anchorages?

The Oasis pair can go almost anywhere you would take a 100-footer. The Oasis 34M draws 2.03 m (6'8") and the 42M 2.05 m (6'9"), shallower than most yachts of their length because the hulls are GRP rather than steel. The B.NOW 52M draws 2.6 m and both B.YOND models 2.7 m (8'10"). At the top of the range the 60M is 2.90 m, the 67M 2.95 m (9'9") and the 72M 3.50 m (11'6"), which genuinely narrows where you can anchor and which marinas will take you. Draft decides your itinerary more than length does.
