The Benetti Motopanfilo 37M: A Classic Profile on a Modern Hull

There is an anchorage you have looked at on the chart for years and never taken a boat into, because the boat drew too much water to try. The Motopanfilo 37M draws 6 feet 5 inches on a 121-foot hull. That one number is the argument, and it holds up better than it sounds.

The Motopanfilo is Benetti's classic-styled line, part of the yard's Navette family, and the 37M is its smaller hull: 121 feet 1 inch overall, 25 feet 7 inches of beam, 230 tons at full load. Everything about the way it looks is deliberate.

Who It's For

This is a yacht for an owner who has already decided what a boat should look like. You are not shopping for the newest silhouette on the dock. You want the one people turn around for, and you will give up a little vertical volume to get it.

It also suits an owner who cruises rather than commutes. Five guest cabins sleep ten. Seven crew live in four cabins of their own. That is a full-service ratio at 121 feet, and it is the configuration of a boat meant to be lived on for weeks rather than run out for an afternoon.

If your week on the water is built around going fast, this is the wrong boat and there is no argument to be had about it. The 37M is drawn for unhurried passages.

The Profile Is the Product

Pierluigi Ausonio drew the naval architecture. Francesco Struglia worked with Benetti on the exterior and the concept. Lazzarini & Pickering Architetti did the interior and the decks. The result reads as traditional from a distance and modern up close.

The details carry it. A bronze ribbon runs the sheer where a classic motoryacht would have carried a mahogany cap rail. The structural ribs inside are left to read rather than boxed in behind joinery. The transom is integrated into the shell instead of bolted on as an afterthought, so the profile stays clean.

Underneath the traditional shape is a modern hull: GRP with carbon fiber. That is what holds a 121-foot boat to 230 tons at full load, and it is a large part of why the draft is what it is.

What the Draft Buys You

Benetti publishes 3,800 nautical miles of range at 10 knots. Ten knots is the speed the yard states that figure at, and it is the speed this boat is drawn around — a passage-making number rather than a performance one.

Power is a twin MAN V12-1400 package, 1,400 horsepower a side, with a larger V12-1650 pairing offered as an option. Fuel capacity is 9,246 gallons; water, 1,057.

But the number that changes your season is 6 feet 5 inches. At that draft a 121-foot yacht gets into water a deeper boat has to look at and pass by. You spend less time in marinas because you have more places to be that are not marinas. Range gets you across; draft decides where you stop.

Living Aboard: Five Cabins, Seven Crew

Ten guests in five cabins, eight heads, and seven crew berthed separately in four cabins. The crew accommodation being split into four cabins rather than shared quarters matters more than it looks on a spec sheet. Crew who sleep well stay, and crew turnover is the thing that quietly ruins a season.

The interior follows the exterior's logic. A long run of hull glazing puts light down the length of the main deck, and the ribs give the space rhythm without needing walls to do it. This is an interior organized around living in it.

Where to Start

The Motopanfilo 37M is worth your time if the shape of the boat matters to you and the depth of the water matters to you, in that order. It is a specific answer to a specific taste and it does not pretend otherwise.

If you are weighing it against the 45M, the question is construction and crew: the 45M is the same idea 25 feet longer, in steel, with nine crew instead of seven. If you are weighing it against the Oasis 34M, the question is whether outdoor deck area matters more to you than the profile does. Walk all three before you decide.
