Every yacht in the row looks the same from the dock, and you have noticed. Motopanfilo is the part of the Benetti range for owners who want a profile with some history in it: a ribbon along the sheer where a mahogany cap rail used to sit, structural ribs left to read rather than hidden, a transom built into the shell instead of bolted onto it. Benetti describes the line as an evolution of its Navette genre, and builds it in two sizes.
We review both Motopanfilo models, and they are not one boat in two lengths. The 121'1" 37M is GRP with carbon fibre, drawing 6'5" at 230 tons full load, with 3,800 nautical miles of range at 10 knots and seven crew in four cabins. The 146'2" 45M is steel with an aluminium superstructure, drawing 8'0" at 430 tons, 4,100 nautical miles at 10 knots, and nine crew in five cabins. Both carry ten guests in five cabins. One thing to know before you read further: the 45M is a pre-delivery model, so everything Benetti publishes for it — including every image — is specification and rendering rather than a hull you can walk.

Moving Up the Motopanfilo Series
Most owners come to the 37M for the shape of the boat, and stay for the draft. At 121'1" on a 25'7" beam it is a GRP and carbon hull drawing 6'5", which is shallow for the length and keeps open the anchorages a yacht this size would usually have to admire from offshore. Benetti states 3,800 nautical miles of range at 10 knots. Ten guests sleep in five cabins with eight heads, and seven crew are berthed in four cabins — a full-service complement without being a payroll you have to think about twice. Interior and deck design is by Lazzarini & Pickering Architetti, over naval architecture by Pierluigi Ausonio and an exterior concept from Francesco Struglia with Benetti.
The 45M is not the 37M stretched. It moves to steel with an aluminium superstructure, 430 tons at full load against 230, and 8'0" of draft against 6'5" — different construction for a different job, under the same profile. The guest count does not move: ten in five cabins on either boat. So the extra twenty-five feet buys volume rather than berths — an owner's suite of more than 60 square metres, a Veranda Deck® with an Observation Deck and a Sun Deck above it, and 4,100 nautical miles at 10 knots. It also buys two more crew: nine in five cabins rather than seven in four.
Buy the 37M for the draft and the smaller crew bill. Buy the 45M when the itinerary stops being coastal — with the caveat that you are buying it on Benetti's drawings and figures, not on a delivered hull.
Our Take
My pick is the 37M, and the reason is the draft. Six foot five under a 121-foot yacht is unusual, and it decides where you can actually spend a season rather than where you can be photographed. Seven crew instead of nine and a composite hull rather than steel keep it a boat an owner can stay involved in running. The styling is the other half of the argument and I will be straight about it: you either want this profile or you do not. The ribbon along the sheer, the exposed ribs, the transom built into the shell — none of it makes the boat better at sea. It makes it look like something with a history in a row of boats that look like nothing at all, and that is worth real money to some owners and nothing at all to others.
The trade-off to price in early is information, and it applies to both boats. Benetti publishes the construction, the dimensions, the full-load displacement and the range, and publishes no engine, no speed and no fuel capacity for either Motopanfilo — every propulsion figure you will read about these yachts came from somewhere else. On the 45M, add that it is a pre-delivery model and every image in circulation is a rendering. If you are ordering one, get the propulsion package, the tankage and the delivery window written into the contract rather than taken from a brochure, and walk the Veranda Deck at the yard before you decide what it is worth to you.
