Sea Ray is the volume builder that stopped apologising for being one. It walked away from the yacht business at the end of the 2010s and put everything back into sport boats and sport cruisers, and the current range is better for the focus. Every model is offered in sterndrive and outboard form, which is a genuinely useful thing for a buyer — you can pick the propulsion without changing the boat.
Two things stand out when you look at the whole range at once. The first is Mercury. Sea Ray has been part of Brunswick since 1986, and Brunswick owns Mercury Marine, so every boat here is a fully integrated Mercury package: the engines, the Joystick Piloting, the SmartCraft digital throttle and shift, the VesselView data on the screen, Active Trim, Dynamic Running Surface. There is no adapter layer between the boat and the engine, and you feel it most at the dock.
The second is inconsistent disclosure, and it is the honest complaint. The SLX 360 Outboard publishes a cruise speed, a top speed and two range figures. The SLX 400 Outboard and the Sundancer 320 publish none of the four. Same builder, same catalogue, same year. Where Sea Ray does publish, it is precise and trustworthy — the numbers on this site are the builder's own and we have kept them exactly. Where it does not, we have left the rows empty and said so, rather than filling them with somebody's estimate. Take the fuel-flow arithmetic seriously on your sea trial for the boats in that second group.
The warranty is worth reading before you sign anything. Sea Ray runs two schemes: five years bow-to-stern on the SPX, SDX and SLX sport boats with lifetime structural cover, and three years on the Sundancers with ten years structural. The SLX 400 and 400 Outboard sit with the Sundancers, not with the sport boats whose badge they wear.

At 38'0" and 13,027 lb the outboard SLX 350 is two feet longer and 1,208 lb lighter than the sterndrive, with twin 350 Verado V10s, seating for 18 and a published 48–64 mph.
The best-documented boat in the range: triple 300 Verados, 35–38 mph cruise, 49–52 mph WOT and 238 miles at cruise — all four figures Sea Ray's own.

Does Sea Ray publish performance figures for its boats?
Only for some of them, and that is the single most important thing to know before you shop the range. Of the five models reviewed here, the SLX 360 Outboard publishes a cruising speed, a wide-open-throttle band and two range figures; the Sundancer 370 publishes the same four; the SLX 310 publishes a wide-open-throttle band only; and the SLX 400 Outboard and Sundancer 320 publish nothing at all. Sea Ray's specification block always gives length, beam, fuel, propulsion, draft up and down, dry weight, deadrise, water capacity and holding tank. Speed is where it becomes selective. Where Sea Ray publishes a figure, this site uses it exactly. Where it does not, the row is left empty rather than estimated.
Are Sea Ray speeds quoted in miles per hour or knots?
Miles per hour. Sea Ray is an American sport-boat and sport-cruiser builder and the entire segment quotes mph, so every speed on this site is in miles per hour and should not be read as knots. The difference is not trivial: the Sundancer 370's published 42 to 44 mph is about 36 to 38 knots. Ranges are quoted in statute miles for the same reason. If you are comparing a Sea Ray against a European yacht whose figures are in knots and nautical miles, convert before you draw a conclusion.
What does Sea Ray's warranty actually cover, and which boats get five years?
Sea Ray runs two schemes and the split is not the one most buyers assume. SURPA5S+ gives five years of bow-to-stern factory cover plus a Limited Lifetime Structural Hull/Deck warranty to the original owner, and it applies to SPX, SDX and SLX sport boats — but it explicitly excludes the SLX 400 and SLX 400 Outboard. SENTIN3L gives three years bow-to-stern plus a 10-year Limited Structural Hull/Deck warranty, and covers all 2015 model year and newer Sundancers plus those two SLX 400 models. Both warranties are transferable to subsequent owners free of charge, which matters at resale. Terms and territorial limits apply, so read the Express Limited Warranty for your build.
Why is every Sea Ray powered by Mercury?
Because they are part of the same company. Sea Ray joined Brunswick Corporation in 1986, and Brunswick also owns Mercury Marine and Simrad electronics. That is why the propulsion, the digital throttle and shift, the Joystick Piloting, the VesselView engine data on the helm screens and features like Active Trim and Dynamic Running Surface all behave as one integrated system rather than a boat with an engine bolted to it. Practically, it means a Mercury dealer anywhere can service the whole drivetrain, and it means the joystick and the screens talk to each other without an adapter layer in between.
