Quick Verdict

  • At 39'9" it runs a little over two feet longer than the sterndrive Sundancer 370's 37'8", and the extra length is all transom bracket — 21,008 lb dry against the sterndrive's 20,800 lb
  • Standard power is triple Mercury 300 Verado V8 outboards with Joystick Piloting and e-Steering; twin Mercury 600 Verado 7.6L V12s sit on the option list
  • Trims up to a 29" draft against 40" down — two inches shallower at rest than the sterndrive Sundancer 370's 31"
  • Sleeps four across two spaces: a forward V-berth lounge that converts to a sleeper for two, and a mid-berth with a standard U-shaped couch that does the same. The enclosed head has a separate shower rather than a wet bath
  • CZone digital switching and dual 12" Simrad GO12 displays are standard; a Seakeeper 3 gyro is optional
  • Sea Ray publishes no wide-open throttle, no cruise speed and no range for this boat — its sterndrive sister publishes all three. Bring your own numbers to the sea trial

Our Take

The thing I want you to notice about this boat is what Sea Ray does not print. The sterndrive Sundancer 370 gets a cruising speed, a wide-open-throttle band and a range figure on its own page. This one gets nothing — the specification block stops at Sleeps: Four. I do not read that as the builder hiding something. There are two very different propulsion packages on offer here, three 300s or two 600s, and a yard that publishes one speed for a boat like that spends the next five years defending it. But it does put the burden on you, and I would rather say so out loud than paste an estimate onto this page and let it read as fact.

Then there is the length. The outboard boat is 39'9" against the sterndrive's 37'8", and every inch of that difference sits behind the transom carrying the bracket. You are not buying a bigger cabin with it — the beam is the same 12'0", the tank is the same 250 gallons, the deadrise is the same 20°. You are buying a longer boat to berth and engines you can put your hands on. For a lot of owners that is a straight win. For anyone tight on slip length it is not. Work out which one you are before you fall for the hull.

What I genuinely like is that the accommodation is split. A forward V-berth lounge that makes up into a double, a mid-berth with a U-shaped couch that makes up into another, and an enclosed head with a separate shower instead of a curtain over the sole. That is four people sleeping in two rooms on a 39-foot boat, and it is the reason this hull works for a family weekend rather than just a long Saturday. If I were speccing one, the Coupe enclosure and the Seakeeper 3 would come before the V12s.

Frequently Asked Questions

How fast is the Sea Ray Sundancer 370 Outboard?

Sea Ray publishes no speed of any kind for this boat — no wide-open-throttle band, no cruising speed and no range. The specification block ends at Sleeps: Four.

Its sterndrive sister publishes all three: 36 to 38 mph cruising, 42 to 44 wide open and 135 miles of range at cruise. Two very different propulsion packages are offered on the outboard — three 300s or two 600s — which is a plausible reason for the silence, but it does put the burden on you. Get the numbers on the sea trial rather than from a listing.

How does the Sundancer 370 Outboard differ from the sterndrive Sundancer 370?

The outboard is 39'9" against the sterndrive's 37'8", and almost all of that extra length is transom bracket rather than cabin. Dry weight is 21,008 pounds against 20,800, and draft is 40 inches down and 29 up against 42 and 31. Power is triple Mercury 300 Verado V8 outboards against twin MerCruiser 8.2L MAG HO engines making 860 horsepower.

Per Sea Ray's own blocks the two genuinely share the 12'0" beam, 250 gallons of fuel, 46 gallons of water, a 30-gallon holding tank, 20 degrees of deadrise and a Sleeps: Four rating. You are buying a longer boat to berth and engines you can put your hands on.

What engines does the Sea Ray Sundancer 370 Outboard come with?

Standard is triple Mercury 300 Verado V8 outboards with Joystick Piloting and e-Steering. Twin Mercury 600 Verado 7.6L V12 outboards sit on Sea Ray's option list for the same boat, and Sea Ray publishes no performance figures for either package.

Standard helm equipment is a digital dash with dual 12-inch Simrad GO12 touchscreens and CZone digital switching for full lighting control. A Seakeeper 3 gyroscopic stabilizer is optional, as is a Coupe version with a hardtop, a full windshield and electrically actuated windows.

Where do four people sleep on the Sundancer 370 Outboard?

In two separate spaces, which is the reason this hull works for a family weekend rather than just a long Saturday. Forward, a V-berth lounge transitions from an L-shaped couch to a sleeper for two. Aft, the mid-berth has a standard U-shaped couch that converts to a sleeper for two as well, with an optional smart TV.

The head is enclosed with a separate shower rather than a curtain over the sole, and the galley carries a standard microwave and refrigerator. Fresh water is 46 gallons and the holding tank 30 gallons.
