Our Take
The 5X is the Pershing I point owner-operators at first, and the reason is the drivetrain rather than the styling. Twin Volvo D11 IPS950s, 725 horsepower a side, and Easy Dock preparation mean a 54-foot Pershing comes into a crosswind berth on a joystick. Pershing publishes 36 knots at the top and 31 at cruise, with 300 nautical miles at that cruise from 581 gallons. Those are the yard's own figures for the standard boat, and they are the ones I would plan around.
Two cabins and two heads is the part buyers argue with, and I think they have it backwards. The space a third stateroom would have taken went into a full-beam owner's suite, on a boat Pershing rates for twelve people aboard. If you are running weekends with your family and the occasional couple, that trade is the right way round. If you need a third cabin and a berth for someone to run the boat, the 6X is the honest answer and you should go and look at that instead.
Settle one thing before you get attached to a number. Pershing offers a second package on this hull - twin CAT 12.9s at 1,000 horsepower each on surface drives, which the yard describes as a 41-knot cruise and a 45-knot top speed. That is a different boat to own, not a faster version of the same one, and every published specification figure for the 5X describes the IPS installation. Decide which of the two you are buying before you talk about speed, and get observed fuel burn at your intended cruise off the sea trial in writing either way.

Pershing Yachts 5X Overview
The 5X is the 54-foot entry to Pershing's X Generation, and the first boat the yard built under that name: 54'2" overall on a 14'4" beam, 46,077 lbs unladen and 55,116 lbs laden, built in GRP.
The signature side wings protect the cockpit and can be closed off from the interior lounge or opened to it through a glass door and window system. Four elliptical hull windows per side light the accommodation below.
Performance & Handling
The standard package is twin Volvo Penta D11 IPS950 pods, 725 hp each, on Z-drives with counter-rotating propellers. Pershing's spec table publishes a 36-knot maximum, a 31-knot cruise and 300 nautical miles of range from 581 gallons of fuel.
A second package is offered: twin CAT 12.9s at 1,000 hp each on Top System 75X surface drives, which Pershing describes in prose as a 41-knot cruise and a 45-knot top speed. Those are figures for the optional installation only - the published spec table covers the IPS boat. The 5X is prepared for Easy Dock, so the pod boat comes in on a joystick.

The main-deck living area is finished in soft colours and lacquered frames, and the mobile glazing means the lounge can be opened to the cockpit or sealed off from it as the weather asks.
Market Position
The 5X was the first of the X Generation boats. In the range it sits below the 62-foot 6X, and its standard drivetrain is pods where the 6X and 7X are surface-drive boats.
That is the trade: 36 knots and joystick handling instead of the 48- and 50-knot top ends further up the line.
Who the 5X Is For
Buy the 5X if you run the boat yourself and want the Pershing look without a crew or a surface-drive learning curve. Two cabins is enough for the way most owners use a 54-footer, and the pods do the docking.
Step up to the 6X if you need a third cabin and the 48-knot top end. Specify the CAT surface-drive package on the 5X if outright speed matters more to you than the joystick.
