Who It's For
The 6X suits the owner for whom the top end is genuinely the point, but who is not willing to give up sleeping accommodation to get it. Pershing's standard configuration is three cabins plus one crew cabin - a full-beam midships master, a forward VIP, and a starboard guest cabin. A two-cabin arrangement is also built, with a living area in place of the guest cabin.
That crew berth matters more than its square footage suggests. It is the difference between a boat you always run yourself and a boat you can hand over for the long leg.
On Deck and Below
The 6X's side wings are integrated into the superstructure rather than standing proud of it, which is the quickest way to tell it apart from the Pershings that came before. Large hull windows light the spaces below deck, and the cabins get new, much larger rectangular portholes.
The main lounge is built around front-opening windows and a dark glass sliding roof - the reason the interior does not feel sealed off while you are running hard. Aft there is a reshaped large sundeck, a carbon and teak table in the cockpit dining area, and a forward chaise longue with a reclining backrest.
The hull measures 62'2" overall with a 15'9" maximum beam and a 4'9" draft. Unladen weight is 74,957 lbs, 88,185 lbs laden. Fuel is 845 gallons, water 195.
Performance
Twin MAN V12 1550s, 1,550 hp apiece, take the 6X to a published 48-knot maximum and a 40-knot cruise. Pershing quotes 280 nautical miles of range at that 40-knot cruise, from 845 gallons - read the range against the speed it is quoted at, not against a slower one.
What forty knots buys is less a shorter trip than a wider weather window. The crossing you would have watched go by on a Friday is one you take.
One honest gap: Pershing publishes no transmission or drive type for the 6X. The specification names the engine and stops there. It would be easy to assume the surface drives from elsewhere in the range carry across, and we are not going to assume it on your behalf.
Where It Sits in the Range
The 6X falls between the 54-foot 5X and the 69-foot 7X. Against the 7X it gives up length, the carbon hull and two knots of published top speed. Against the 5X it adds a third cabin, a crew cabin and twelve knots.
That middle position is the whole proposition. It is the smallest Pershing that will sleep a full party, carry someone to run it, and still show forty-eight on the top end.
