Absolute: Everything You Need To Know

You want the volume and the finish of a bigger boat, and you want to run it yourself on a Friday evening without calling anyone. Absolute has built to exactly that brief at Podenzano in Italy since 2002 — 48 to 75 feet, every hull on Volvo Penta pods.

Absolute is the brand I point people to when they have decided the boat is going to be run by the family rather than by a crew, and they are not prepared to give up volume to get there. Every model in the range is on Volvo Penta IPS pods, so a joystick comes with the boat rather than as an option, and the layouts are drawn around that decision instead of in spite of it. Side doors beside the main helm, extra mooring stations aft, step-free decks, walkways with real handrails — those details are why a 70-footer from this yard is still a boat one person can put alongside.

The three ranges are genuinely different briefs, not trim levels, and this is where most buyers need help. Flybridge is the sporting line and the one that grew the company: five boats from 48' 0" to 70' 8", an upper deck laid out to be lived on, and from the 52 FLY upward a crew cabin so all the cabins below stay in the guest count. Navetta is the long-range line, seven boats from 49' 8" to 74' 10", and it spends its length on beam and tankage rather than on profile. Coupé is one boat, the 48, and it is the sport answer — a low profile, an unfurnished cockpit and opening side gunwales.

Two comparisons inside the range are worth making before you shop outside it. The 47 FLY and the 48 Coupé share a 14' 10" beam, 423 gallons of fuel, 140 gallons of water and the same D6-IPS650 package, so the choice between them is purely a deck plan — a flybridge, or a solar roof and a lower air draft. And the 60 FLY and the Navetta 62 both measure 61' 3" overall and are completely different boats: 16' 2" of beam and 740 gallons against 17' 7" and 898. Same slip, same length, two different weeks. Walk both in one afternoon and you will know inside ten minutes which one you are.

The practical advice is short. Beam is the specification that decides your berth on the bigger Navettas — 17' 7" on the 62 and 18' 6" on the 70 narrow the list of slips and travelifts that will take the boat, so settle that with a phone call before you make an offer, not after. And take your own numbers at sea trial: observed fuel burn at your intended cruise rpm, in writing, on a boat rigged the way yours will be, and the draft and rigged weight from your own build sheet. Absolute states plainly that it reserves the right to vary a specification without notice, which is normal for a yard that engineers everything in-house and improves boats mid-cycle — it just means your build sheet, not a brochure, is the document that matters.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Absolute yachts designed to be owner-operated?

Yes, and the layouts are drawn around it. Every model in the range runs Volvo Penta IPS pod drives, so joystick control comes with the boat rather than as an option, and the details follow from there: side doors beside the main helm, extra mooring stations aft, step-free decks, and side walkways with high handrails and integrated lighting. On the larger boats the crew cabin is entered from the swim platform or by its own corridor, so a captain can be aboard for a delivery without the accommodation being shared.

How many models does Absolute build?

Thirteen, across three ranges, from 48' 0" to 74' 10". The Flybridge line runs five boats from the 47 FLY to the 70 FLY. The Navetta line runs seven, from the Navetta 50 to the flagship Navetta 75. The Coupé line is one boat, the 48 Coupé. Every current Absolute model is covered on this site.

What is the difference between Absolute's Flybridge, Navetta and Coupé ranges?

They are different briefs, not trim levels. Flybridge is the sporting line the company grew out of, five boats with an upper deck laid out to be lived on. Navetta is the long-range line, seven boats that spend their length on beam and tankage rather than on profile — the Navetta 62 carries 17' 7" of beam and 898 gallons where the same-length 60 FLY carries 16' 2" and 740. Coupé is the sport answer: a low profile, a solar roof, opening side gunwales and an unfurnished cockpit.

Where are Absolute yachts built?

At Podenzano, in the province of Piacenza, in the Emilia-Romagna region of northern Italy. The company was founded in 2002. The shipyard covers 48,000 square metres and employs around 250 people, and the yard states that the whole production cycle happens inside it — concept, design, engineering and build — rather than being distributed among outside contractors. The site runs on geothermal and solar power with microclimate control and filtered air in the production halls.
