Cruising from Barcelona
The harbor. The Port of Barcelona is run by the Autoritat Portuària de Barcelona; the city-facing nautical basin, Port Vell, has been managed by its own urban-management entity since 1988, and its official roster puts Marina Vela, Marina Port Vell, both royal clubs and Barcelona Capital Nàutica inside the breakwaters. Port Olímpic, up the beachfront, sits outside that system: the Generalitat handed it to Barcelona City Council in February 2020, and the municipal company B:SM has operated it since that April — fuel and seamanship services around the clock, 15 ft (4.5 m) in the fairway, a 45-tonne gantry crane, and berth allocation that gives preference to zero-emission boats.
The season. Summer concentrates most recreational traffic, and the operators say so plainly: many owners reserve July and August berths three to four months ahead, and Marina Vela's own guidance is to start a berth search between February and May — wait until June and the best options are gone. Each October the Salón Náutico turns Port Vell's piers into the show floor.
The southwest run — the Garraf. Out of the harbor and down the cliffs: Port Ginesta, which calls itself the largest leisure marina in Spain, with 10 seafront restaurants; then Port de Sitges–Aiguadolç, 471 moorings with 15 restaurants inside the harbour. Garraf cove and its beach huts make the famous sail-past between the two.
The northeast run — the Maresme. Port Olímpic first, then a short hop to Port Fòrum — 270 moorings for 33–262 ft (10–80 m) across 8 pontoons, a 31-berth superyacht pontoon with private access, a 150-tonne travel-lift yard and Catalonia's largest dry-stack, working VHF channel 73. Marina Badalona follows with 626 moorings to 98 ft (30 m), Blue Flag water and a working fishing fleet, and Port Masnou closes the run with online transit berthing and the densest restaurant boulevard on this coast.
Harbour to harbour. Every stop above states its own visitor or rental berthing — the runs need no anchoring legs, and this guide writes none. Stern-to (Med-moor) berthing is the local norm; brief the crew before the first quay.
