Tiara Yachts EX 60

The Tiara EX 60 is 60' 3" overall with its integrated platform, on a 16' 11" beam, and draws 5' 1". Dry weight is 57,500 lbs. Power is twin Volvo Penta D13 IPS1350 diesels rated 1,000 HP each, turning Volvo Q6 propellers through 1.88:1 gears. Fuel is 700 US gallons, fresh water 150 and the holding tank 86. Deadrise at the transom is 14 degrees, and the hardtop stands 12' 9" above the waterline.

Tiara describes the EX 60 as an anthology of its own product line, and the description is literal: the exterior thinking comes from its outboard yachts, where the deck is the whole point, and the accommodation comes from its inboard heritage, where an extended stay aboard is assumed. That is why a 60-footer with three staterooms also has a cockpit you order rather than accept.

The aft cockpit takes a module - a social configuration, an adventure module with tender and toy stowage, or a glass patio that extends finished living space aft. The media gallery on Tiara's own page is organized around those choices, which tells you how much of the boat they change.

Below deck are three staterooms and two heads. The helm runs Volvo's Electronic Vessel Control with the Interceptor Trim System and Active Ride Control, and the whole boat is engineered around reducing noise and vibration on a long run.

The EX 60 on twin D13 IPS1350s was tested at Stuart, Florida on 30 November 2022 in a light breeze and under a foot of chop, with fuel, water and waste tanks full, three aboard and 2,381 lbs of gear and test equipment. Wide open throttle is 46.1 mph - 40.1 knots - at 2,454 rpm on 102.3 gph. Idle to 30 mph takes 17 seconds.

Optimum cruise is 28.9 mph at 1,801 rpm on 52.0 gph, or 36.6 mph at 2,107 rpm on 71.2 gph. Tiara's own arithmetic on 90% of the 700-gallon tank gives 304 nautical miles at the lower setting and 281 at the higher. The efficiency peak sits right in that band - 0.56 statute mpg at 1,801 rpm, against 0.45 at wide open throttle - so the boat is genuinely at its best where you would want to run it all day.

Noise is 69 dB(A) at cruise and 72 at wide open throttle - three decibels between the whole working range of the boat, and the payoff for the noise and vibration engineering Tiara put into this hull.

The Interceptor Trim System with Active Ride Control is the part to test rather than read about. It trims the boat automatically through turns and in a following sea, and the difference it makes is a sea-trial question, not a specification question - run the boat with it on and off in the same conditions and form your own view. Deadrise at the transom is 14 degrees and propulsion is pods, so slow-speed handling is joystick work: dock it in a crosswind, in a slip the size of yours, before you decide.

Three staterooms and two heads at 60' 3", with a 16' 11" beam to put them in. That beam is a full foot wider than the EX 54's and it is where the extra accommodation volume comes from, not the length.

The main deck follows the pattern the EX series is built on: salon and galley on one level, sight lines kept open to a helm designed to be sat at for hours rather than glanced at between marinas. Volvo's Electronic Vessel Control puts the driving on one interface, and the noise and vibration work Tiara did on this hull shows up as a 69 dB(A) reading at cruise - conversation level, at 28.9 mph.

Aft, the module you choose decides what the interior actually extends into. The glass patio turns the back of the boat into finished, glazed living space and is the option for owners whose weekends are long lunches at anchor. The adventure module goes the other way, giving over the same real estate to tender and toy stowage for a boat that gets used off the beach.

Fresh water is 150 gallons and the holding tank 86 - the two numbers that decide how many nights you can stay out before the day is planned around a pump-out rather than around the water. Tiara's virtual tour is the fastest way to read the finish before you travel.

At 60 feet the question stops being about the boat and starts being about crew. The EX 60 is drawn on the assumption there is none: joystick pods, a single helm designed for long runs, and Active Ride Control doing the trimming. That is the argument, and it is what separates it from most of what else is 60 feet long.

Inside the range, the Tiara EX 54 is the same idea six feet shorter, and the comparison is unusually clean because both boats have published test sheets. The EX 54 runs 38.7 mph on 650 gallons with twin 725 HP pods; the EX 60 runs 46.1 mph on 700 gallons with twin 1,000 HP pods, and it does it on a full foot more beam with a wider hull to carry the accommodation. Cruise range comes out within five nautical miles of each other, 304 against 299 - the bigger boat is not the shorter-legged one.

The Princess V58 at 60' 4" is the closest European rival by length, running the same Volvo D13 block at a lower 800 HP rating, and it is the boat most buyers will drive on the same trip. The Azimut S6 at 59' 1" arrives at the segment from the sport-yacht side on triple IPS 700s, with a very different deck philosophy.

Where the EX 60 argues is documentation and reconfigurability - an rpm-by-rpm test sheet with decibels and calculated range at every step, and an aft third of the boat you specify rather than inherit.

This boat fits the owner-operator who has outgrown 50 feet and does not want a captain to come with the upgrade. Pods on a joystick, one helm built for long runs, and Active Ride Control holding the boat flat mean a competent owner and one other person can run it - which is the whole reason to look at a 60-footer laid out like this one.

It fits a family that stays out for a week. Three staterooms, two heads, 150 gallons of water and an 86-gallon holding tank on 700 gallons of fuel is a genuine extended-cruising package, and the 304-nautical-mile cruise range means the next harbor is a decision rather than a constraint.

It fits an owner who wants the aft deck to be theirs. The adventure module carries the tender and the toys; the glass patio makes the same space finished, glazed living room. Specify it at order.

It does not fit a buyer chasing top speed for its own sake. Wide open throttle is 46.1 mph and the boat is at its most efficient at 28.9 - 0.56 statute mpg there against 0.45 flat out. This hull rewards being run in its cruise band.

It does not fit anyone who needs an upper station or a flybridge; the EX 60 is a single-helm boat under a hardtop. Plan your season off the published sheet - 52.0 gph at 28.9 mph, 71.2 at 36.6, worked against 700 gallons - and get observed burn at your intended rpm in writing at the trial.
