Quick Verdict

  • OceanTrac2 hull delivers offshore capability and 29-inch draft with drives up, accessing water most 50-footers cannot reach
  • Terrace doors, convertible cockpit layout, and 22 rod holders provide genuine multi-use functionality without sacrificing performance or comfort
  • Triple Mercury 600 Verados offer simpler maintenance and better parts availability than inboard diesels, with 56.7 mph top speed and 700-gallon fuel capacity

Our Take

The 50 SAV is Regal's most ambitious build to date, and the execution is solid. The OceanTrac2 hull handles offshore conditions confidently, the triple 600s deliver real performance, and the build quality is consistent with what we've seen from Regal's higher-end models. The LivePower hybrid system is a smart addition that reduces generator runtime and simplifies electrical management. The terrace doors and convertible cockpit layout are not gimmicks. They work.

This boat is for the owner who actually uses their vessel. If you fish regularly, cruise frequently, and want one platform that handles both without compromise, the 50 SAV makes sense. It's not for the buyer who wants a traditional yacht aesthetic or the prestige of inboard power. It's not for the purist who believes a fishing boat should only fish. This is a tool for the versatile boater, and it's designed accordingly.

Resale on the SAV series has been strong, particularly in Florida and the Gulf Coast markets where outboard demand is high. Maintenance costs are predictable. Parts availability is excellent. The boat holds value better than most in this size class because it appeals to multiple buyer profiles. Expect to spend $1.2 to $1.5 million fully equipped, but you're getting a boat that replaces two or three specialized vessels. That's the real value proposition here..

Frequently Asked Questions

How fast is the Regal 50 SAV?

Regal's performance test report records 56.7 mph at 6,400 RPM on triple Mercury V12 600 Verado outboards, making it the fastest boat reviewed from this yard. Best economy comes at 33.4 mph at 4,000 RPM, burning 58.1 gallons an hour for 0.57 miles per gallon. At wide-open throttle the burn rises to 163.7 gallons an hour.

What is Regal LivePower on the 50 SAV?

A hybrid electrical system that combines lithium-ion batteries with the generator, dock shore power and the engines, so the boat draws from whichever source suits the moment. In practice it means the generator runs far less: normal daytime loads come off the batteries, and the genset starts automatically only when it is needed. It is quieter at anchor and it reduces generator hours over an ownership.

What is the range of the Regal 50 SAV?

About 360 statute miles at its best-economy cruise of 33.4 mph, from a 700-gallon tank with a ten percent reserve. That is the longest range of any Regal reviewed here, and it is what makes the boat viable for island-hopping rather than day trips despite 1,800 horsepower on the transom.

What does SAV stand for on the Regal 50 SAV?

Sports Activity Vessel. Regal introduced the SAV line as a category that sits between a centre console and an express cruiser: the fishability of the first, with the accommodation of the second. On the 50 that means twenty-two rod holders, dual insulated fish boxes and a convertible transom alongside a king aft stateroom, a separate walk-in shower and air-conditioned mezzanine seating.
