Quick Verdict

  • Volvo Penta IPS arrives here: joystick docking on a 46-footer, where the 420 beneath it in the line is a shaft boat
  • Two or three staterooms with two heads and a crew or child berth, so a family with children doesn't have to buy another eight feet of boat
  • A 3' 5" draft — shallower than most 46-footers carrying this much accommodation — with a 24-knot cruise and a 30-knot maximum quoted at full load

Our Take

The 460 is where two things arrive in this line that the smaller boats do not have: pod drives and a third stateroom. Volvo Penta IPS means joystick docking, and it is the reason a lot of owners buy this boat rather than the 420 — it is worth an hour on the water to feel the difference before you decide. The main deck is one connected room, galley and saloon and helm sharing the level with large windows down both sides, and the whole space opens aft into the cockpit so the boat works as one area at anchor.

This fits a family of six who go out for four or five nights at a time and want the children in their own cabin. Two or three staterooms, two heads, a crew or child berth, 328 gallons of fuel and 155 of water is the package, and it is honestly sized for that use. The 3' 5" draft is the quiet advantage — genuinely shallow for a 46-footer with this much accommodation, and it decides which anchorages are available to you rather than which ones you admire from outside.

Look elsewhere if you want conventional shafts. The 460 is a pod boat, and pods bring their own service regime — drive-unit servicing and haul-out intervals are their own schedule, and worth understanding before you buy rather than after. Before you commit: settle the two- versus three-stateroom layout, confirm whether the hull has IPS 500 or IPS 600, get the pod service schedule and intervals in writing, and get observed consumption at 24 knots recorded at sea trial.

Prestige 460 Overview

The Prestige 460 is a 46' 10" flybridge yacht on 14' 1" of beam, drawing 3' 5" and displacing 27,780 lbs light - 38,802 lbs at full load. Fuel is 328 US gallons, fresh water 155. Prestige lists accommodation as six plus one and rates it CE category B10 / C12.

Two things set it apart from the boats below it. Volvo Penta IPS pod drives arrive here, which means joystick docking, where the 420 beneath it is a shaft boat. And it is offered with two or three staterooms, so a family with children does not have to buy another eight feet of boat to separate them.

The layout runs the galley, saloon and helm station through one bright main-deck space that opens aft onto the cockpit, with the flybridge above sized as a full second deck rather than an overflow. Below, the cabins are drawn around large hull windows.

Garroni Design, JP Concepts and Prestige Engineering drew it. The 3' 5" draft is the quiet advantage: it is shallower than most 46-footers with this much accommodation, and it decides which anchorages are available to you.

Performance & Handling

Prestige quotes a 24-knot cruise and a 30-knot maximum for the 460, and states that maximum at full load - a conservative way to publish it, and a useful one, because it is close to the condition you will actually run the boat in. Plan the day around 24.

Power is Volvo Penta IPS: twin IPS 500 on D6-380s as standard, or twin IPS 600 on D6-440s. Pods mean joystick docking and a different feel at low speed from the shaft boats below it in the line. They also mean a different service regime over the life of the boat - drive-unit servicing and haul-out intervals are their own schedule, and worth understanding before you buy rather than after.

Draft is 3' 5". That is genuinely shallow for a 46-footer carrying up to three staterooms, and it is the specification that opens up the Bahamas bank, the thinner ICW cuts and the shoal-side anchorages. Maximum air draft is 17' 7" - check it against your boathouse or fixed bridge.

Light displacement is 27,780 lbs and full load 38,802 lbs; use the full-load figure for a lift or a transport quote. Fuel is 328 US gallons: hold the boat at 24 knots on sea trial and get observed burn and sea state recorded in writing.

Interior & Accommodations

Prestige offers the 460 with two or three staterooms, which is the decision that defines the boat. Two gives you a larger master and a genuine guest suite; three keeps children and guests apart on a 46-footer, which is usually why a buyer is standing on this boat instead of a 43. Two heads serve either arrangement, and Prestige's accommodation figure of six plus one accounts for a crew or child berth on top.

The main deck is one connected room. Galley, saloon and helm station share the level, with large windows down both sides, and the whole space opens aft into the cockpit so the boat works as one area at anchor. It is a sedan-style arrangement carried onto a flybridge hull, and it is the reason the interior feels larger than 14' 1" of beam should allow.

Below, the cabins are drawn around hull windows rather than overhead hatches, so the light comes in at eye level and the guest cabin does not feel like a cupboard.

Above, the flybridge is fully equipped rather than a helm and a bench - it is where the boat is lived in when it stops. Fresh water is 155 US gallons, holding 32, and the calorifier 11. That water tank is the constraint on a long weekend, not the fuel.

Market Position

The 460 sits mid-line in Prestige's F-Line, between the 420 at 42' 10" and the 520 at 52' 10", and it is where two things arrive that the smaller boats do not have: pod drives and a third stateroom.

Inside the brand the choice is clean. The 420 is the shaft-drive boat with an enclosed wheelhouse and a 25-knot cruise, four feet shorter and 4,850 lbs lighter. The F4.3 is the new-generation 43-footer with the galley facing the cockpit. The 460 is the one that adds joystick docking, a third cabin and a crew berth, and it does it while drawing less water than either of them - 3' 5" against 3' 7" and 3' 11".

Against the wider market, the Galeon 480 FLY at 48' 5" is the closest cross-shop on accommodation, listing three cabins and two heads with fold-out balconies as its headline. The Princess F45 at 47' 1" is the British benchmark at the length. What usually settles it is the drivetrain question: the Prestige is a pod boat here, and that is either exactly what you want or exactly what you do not.

Who the 460 Is For

This fits a family of six who go out for four or five nights at a time and want the children in their own cabin. Two or three staterooms, two heads, a crew or child berth, 328 gallons of fuel and 155 of water is the package, and it is honestly sized for that use.

Take it seriously if you dock single-handed or with one other person. IPS joystick control is the reason a lot of owners buy this boat rather than the 420, and it is worth an hour on the water to feel the difference before you decide. Take it seriously if the 3' 5" draft opens up water you currently have to go around - on a 46-footer with three cabins, that is a real advantage and not a marketing line.

Look elsewhere if you want conventional shafts. The 460 is a pod boat, and if you have a settled view about drivetrain servicing over ten years of ownership, act on it: the 420 below it is shaft-driven.

Before you commit: settle the two- versus three-stateroom layout, confirm whether the hull has IPS 500 or IPS 600, get the pod service schedule and interval costs in writing from the dealer, and get observed consumption at 24 knots recorded at sea trial.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many cabins does the Prestige 460 have?

Two or three staterooms across two heads, and Prestige lists accommodation as six plus one, which accounts for a crew or child berth on top. Three cabins is usually why a buyer is standing on a 46-footer rather than a 43. Two gives a larger master and a genuine guest suite instead.

What is the Prestige 460's draft?

Three feet five inches, which is genuinely shallow for a 46-footer carrying up to three staterooms. It is the specification that opens the Bahamas bank, the thinner Intracoastal cuts and the shoal-side anchorages. Maximum air draft is 17' 7", and that is the figure to check against a boathouse or a fixed bridge.

How fast is the Prestige 460?

Prestige publishes a 24-knot cruise and a 30-knot maximum, stating that maximum at full load, which is close to the condition you will actually run the boat in. Plan the day around 24 knots. Fuel is 328 US gallons; get observed burn at cruise rpm and the sea state written into the trial report.

What engines does the Prestige 460 have?

Volvo Penta IPS pods: twin IPS 500 on D6-380 blocks as standard, or twin IPS 600 on D6-440s. Pods bring joystick docking, which is the single reason many owners choose the 460 over the boat below it in the line. They also bring their own drive-unit service schedule, worth understanding before you buy rather than after.
