Where to keep a yacht in Jupiter & Tequesta
Jupiter dockage sorts into three clusters. Cruising from Jupiter & Tequesta
The inlet. Respect it and it pays you back daily. The Coast Pilot's words: Jupiter Inlet "is dangerous and particularly hazardous to small boats not designed for the open seas. Persons using this inlet should be experienced boatmen and have local knowledge." A shallow sandbar extends south and east from the north jetty across the entire inlet, usually 1 to 2 feet below the surface, the openings shift with the weather, and tidal currents reported to 6 knots throw eddies and extreme turbulence — worst near the south jetty, on an ebb against an easterly, and in the winter months. There is no deepwater anchorage inside; the ICW crosses half a mile in.
Who keeps it open. The Jupiter Inlet District — created by the Florida Legislature in 1921 — maintains the inlet between its 800-foot north and 1,200-foot south jetties, dredging the 6.58-acre sand trap 1,000 feet west of the mouth annually or semi-annually on hydrographic surveys. The 2026 cycle was the big one: roughly 120,000 cubic yards in the trap by January — double the typical load, with mariners reporting shoaling — cleared by round-the-clock dredging of about 176,000 cubic yards, completed April 26, 2026. The District has maintained the Main and South channel markers since installing them in 2007 (the Coast Guard owns the ICW marks); report a downed marker to (561) 746-2223, and check the District's real-time inlet camera before you commit to the bar.
The bridge ladder. Transiting the ICW through this market you'll work four bascules: Hobe Sound Bridge, 21 feet, at Mile 995.9; Cato's Bridge (SR 707), 25 feet, at Mile 1004.1; the US 1 bridge, 38 feet at center, Mile 1004.8, tender on VHF 16 (call sign WHW-793); and Indiantown Road, 35 feet, Mile 1006.2, also VHF 16 (WHW-789). Just west of the US 1 span the waterway turns sharply across the Loxahatchee into Lake Worth Creek — the Coast Pilot warns against confusing the ICW route with the passage through the two river bridges, and old bridge piers extend from both banks west of US 1.
The Loxahatchee. Upriver is small-boat water by design: the Alternate A1A fixed span carries 25 feet, the FEC railroad bascule just 4 feet closed (33 CFR 117.299 governs), the river shoals beyond, and a fixed 11-foot bridge crosses the Northwest Fork about 2 miles above the rail bridge. That is dinghy and center-console territory to Jonathan Dickinson State Park, which keeps a boat ramp in the park and runs ranger-guided Trapper Nelson homestead tours year-round — note the park's concessions, including canoe and kayak rentals and boat tours, went unavailable effective June 30, 2026.

For a boat working the coast: JIB Marina on Jupiter Island calls itself the first fuel stop going north on the ICW from the inlet and the last going south, with Rec-90 and diesel on high-speed pumps; Castaways and Blowing Rocks both sell diesel and ethanol-free gas inside the market.
