Dock & Dine in Sarasota & Bradenton
Dock-and-dine here runs the full arc of the bay — a downtown where the marina and the restaurants share one property, two barrier-key rooms that print their marker numbers, a working fish-house village, and a river pier a city rebuilt around a restaurant. The stops below carry each venue's own published welcome, or the marina that does its tying-up.
The Sarasota bayfront — one address, three rooms
Marina Jack is the anchor: the Dining Room, the Blue Sunshine Bar & Grill on the Patio and the Deep Six Lounge & Piano Bar all stand over the marina's own docks, with 90 percent of its 298 slips first-come public and 85-plus moorings a dinghy ride out. Next door in Bayfront Park, O'Leary's Tiki Bar is the landmark whose site says nothing about docks — check local dockage options, knowing Marina Jack's public slips are on the same Bayfront.
The keys — come in by the numbers
On Longboat's bay side, Dry Dock Waterfront Grill publishes the cleanest instruction on the island: Marker 6 via boat. At the north end, Mar Vista's dockside tables sit under century-old buttonwoods in Longbeach village, a short run inside Longboat Pass — confirm dock space direct. And on Anna Maria Island, the Bradenton Beach City Pier is the government-backed sure thing: a first-come public day dock on the rebuilt Historic Bridge Street Pier, the Anna Maria Oyster Bar operating the restaurant on it, and a south-side anchorage with a dinghy dock for boats the day dock can't take.
Cortez — the fish houses
Cortez has fished commercially since the 1880s and carries a National Register historic district listing (1995) to prove it. Swordfish Grill posts its arrival as Mile Marker 49 by boat; Tide Tables answers from the base of the bridge at Mile Marker 48; and Star Fish Company's dockside tables serve seafood caught in the village's own waters — its site is silent on patron docks, so check local dockage options and treat the working waterfront with a fisherman's courtesy.
The Manatee River
Riverhouse sits at the end of the Regatta Pointe pier, with the marina's published transient slips — 18 to 100 feet, unrestricted height — as its parking lot. Downtown, PIER 22 marks its 50th year on the Riverwalk with a site that stays silent on dockage; Twin Dolphin Marina's protected walled harbor is a walk away, by the marina's own description.
Before you go
The bay is manatee water — FWC Slow Speed All Year zones ring the passes, the keys and both banks of the Manatee River, and the agency's own advice is to abide by the regulations as posted on the water. The three passes shift continually per the Coast Pilot, so carry current local knowledge before running the bars for dinner on the Gulf side. Bigger plans than dinner?
