Dock & Dine in Lower Keys
Dock-and-dine in the Lower Keys is the honest kind: a handful of real stops, none of them dressed up, most of them reached down channels that reward local knowledge.
The fish camps
Geiger Key Fish Camp is the standard-bearer — the Coast Pilot lists berths, gasoline and a ramp at the marina, and the restaurant will clean and cook what you caught on the way in. Up the coast at MM 17, South of the Seven at Sugarloaf Lodge puts a chef-driven kitchen on the old lodge's water, with complimentary dockage riding on every room and Sugarloaf Marina's bait and fuel next door.
The beach bar
Kiki's Sandbar on Little Torch gulfside is the district's celebration spot — live music every night and an "arrive by land or by sea" welcome. Dock specifics come on the phone, so call before you build a plan around tying up.
The private island
Little Palm Island is the once-a-season arrival: 575 feet of lagoon dock for yachts to 120 feet with six feet of draft, four nautical miles north of Looe Key Light. Marina guests get the dining room; dinner-only dockage starts with a call to the dockmaster on 305-422-4225, not a drop-in.
The park miles
Bahia Honda and the refuge backcountry are bring-your-own country — the park's concession sells snacks and ice at the 19-slip marina, and nothing else out there sells anything at all. Which is the point.
Before you go
Fuel is gas on this stretch — plan diesel at Marathon or Stock Island. The crossover channels carry decades-old reported depths, the backcountry zones are marked by refuge buoys that are not moorings, and the reef is buoy-only diving. Bigger plans than lunch? Dockage notes are what each restaurant publishes on its own site — space is first-come and dinner-hour rafting is real, so hail ahead. Where a venue states nothing about docking, we say so rather than guess.
