Dock & Dine in Cape Canaveral & Melbourne
The Space Coast eats where its boats work: over the Indian River in Sebastian and Melbourne, and around The Cove at Port Canaveral, where the commercial fleet still lands the catch a dock away from the dining room. The stops below carry each venue's own published welcome — and where a famous room's site is silent on dockage, the nearest published transient dock does the tying-up.
Sebastian — the southern gate
Capt Hiram's says it plainest: accessible by car or water and open to the public, with 90 percent of its marina's wet slips public and first-come — two restaurants and four bars up the dock. A few blocks north, Squid Lips' Sebastian original is built over the river and invites you to come by boat or car in its own location's words. Earl's Hideaway, the riverfront blues bar with a band calendar posted into 2027, publishes no dock — check local dockage options; Hiram's slips are less than a mile north on the same shore.
Melbourne & Eau Gallie — the lagoon rooms
Grills Riverside north of the Pineda Causeway is the full program — come by car or by boat, live bands, dolphins, and tour boats docked at the restaurant. Squid Lips at Eau Gallie sits a short hop from the Waterline and Eau Gallie Yacht Basin slips, riding the chain's own come-by-boat invitation. And the Chart House at Melbourne Harbor is the dress-up room: its own page stops at the banks of the Indian River Lagoon, but Melbourne Harbor Marina's transient slips — reservation only, VHF 16 — are steps from the table.
The Cove at Port Canaveral — boat-to-table, literally
Grills' original Portside deck has shared Sunrise Marina's docks since 1997 — let's meet on the dock, as the marina puts it, though what Sunrise publishes is rack storage to 45 feet, so call ahead. The rest of the row — Fishlips' sun deck and tiki bar, Rusty's, the Cove's founding seafood house from 1993, and Seafood Atlantic, the working fish house buying from 200-plus independent boats — publishes no patron docks: check local dockage options, with Cape Marina accepting transient guests whenever possible in the same harbor, VHF 16.
The rivers north
Squid Lips Cocoa Beach fronts the Banana River — shoal water, 3 feet controlling (1976–78 report), happily center-console territory. In Cocoa Village, tie up at Cocoa Village Marina (come for a day, a week, a month, or longer) or the city's Lee Wenner Park day docks and walk to the Village. And at Titusville, Pier 220 serves seafood on the historic fishing pier by the Max Brewer bridge — check local dockage options; the city marina's guest slips are across the basin and list the restaurant among their destinations.
Before you go
Time the lock — Canaveral Lock runs 6 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. on VHF 13 — and watch launch-day closures, which shut the water north of the port channel and 3 miles off the cape on their own schedule. Melbourne Harbor takes diners' boats by reservation only, and the Banana River rooms reward a shallow draft. Bigger plans than dinner?
