There is a point on a catamaran's size curve where the solar argument stops being a brochure line and starts being a system that actually runs the boat. On Sunreef's sailing range, that point is the 60.
Who It's For
The Sunreef 60 Sail NEXT suits the owner who wants meaningful time at anchor without a generator running, and who is not prepared to give up living space to get it. Sunreef publishes 225 m² of living space on an 18.4 m (60 ft 4 in) hull with a 10.20 m (33 ft 6 in) beam, and the boat is certified to CE design category A.
It is also the size at which the shipyard's vertical integration starts to pay off visibly. There is enough coachroof, bimini and hull surface here for an array that keeps a battery bank moving in tropical latitudes, and enough beam to carry the systems without eating the accommodation.
Design and Layout
Two hundred and twenty-five square metres is the number that sells this boat. The saloon runs the full width of the bridgedeck, and Sunreef's NEXT redesign opens it further into the cockpit.
The interior is drawn per owner. Typical builds put a full-beam or full-hull master on one side with guest cabins opposite; charter-minded owners go symmetrical. Crew accommodation is separate where the layout calls for it. Sunreef publishes no cabin or head count for the 60 — a consequence of the bespoke model, not an oversight.
The rig is a 110 m² mainsail with an 85 m² genoa.
The Number to Pin Down
Sunreef quotes fuel capacity on the 60 Sail NEXT between 1,000 l and 1,750 l. That is a wide spread on a boat this size, and it tells you the Eco drivetrain is being asked to do more or less work depending on how the build is specified.
Pin it down early. The difference between the two ends of that range is the difference between a boat that motors when it has to and a boat that motors when it wants to, and the tanks are set at contract. Water capacity is fixed at 800 l.
How the Batteries Actually Charge
Three ways, and they reinforce each other. Sunreef's composite-integrated solar panels charge whenever the boat is in daylight. Hydrogeneration recovers power from the propellers whenever the boat is sailing. Generators or shore power cover the rest where an owner specifies them.
The classic version of this hull runs 2 × 135 hp diesels instead. Sunreef offers both from a single specification sheet, with the model page carrying a tabbed spec block labelled ECO VERSION and CLASSIC VERSION — the hulls, beams and tankage are identical, and only the propulsion changes.
What Sunreef Does Not Tell You
Sunreef publishes no speed figure for any boat in its current range. No top speed, no cruise speed, no range — not on this model and not on any of the other thirteen we cover. That is unusual. Most yards at this level publish at least a cruise figure, and several publish full performance tables.
We have left those rows empty on the specification table rather than filling them with an estimate. If a broker or a listing hands you a precise Sunreef speed, ask where it came from, because it did not come from the shipyard.
The same applies to displacement, which Sunreef publishes for nothing in the range, and to draft, which it publishes for only three of the fourteen models. Get the numbers you need in writing before you sign a build contract. Sunreef will provide them — they simply are not on the website.
Where to Start
The 60 Eco is the smallest Sunreef where the sustainability case stands on its own numbers rather than on the concept. Buy it for that, and for 225 m² of living space on a boat you can still berth in most places you want to go.
Step up to the 70 if you want the same argument with more solar area, a bigger rig and double the water capacity. Step across to the 60 Sunreef Power if the flybridge and the volume matter more than the rig.
