You want to run 40 miles offshore, spend the day at anchor, and still sleep aboard. The 46 LS puts triple Mercury 600 V12s behind a cockpit that closes against the weather.

Quick Verdict

  • Sliding glass doors close the cockpit against weather and open it to a portside terrace, with the galley set mid-cockpit rather than below - the cockpit stays the main room
  • Triple Mercury 600 Verado V12s recorded 59.0 mph at 6,245 rpm and idle to 30 mph in 9.08 seconds, with optimum cruise at 41.1 mph on 74.0 gph or 47.1 mph on 83.9 gph
  • Those two cruise settings are worth 333 and 336 statute miles on 90 percent of the tank, over a forward berth, a mid-cabin stateroom and a head below deck

Our Take

Tiara made a decision on the 46 LS that most builders at this length will not make: the cockpit stays the main room. Sliding glass doors close it off when the weather turns and open it straight out to the portside terrace when it does not, and the galley sits mid-cockpit rather than below, so cooking happens where people already are. That is a different boat from an express cruiser with a cockpit attached to the back of it.

The triple 600s are not there for the top-speed line. Tiara's own sheet, taken at Stuart at 35,187 lbs as tested with four aboard and the optional gyro fitted, gives 59.0 mph at 6,245 rpm on 148.6 gallons an hour - and 41.1 mph at 4,500 rpm on 74.0 gph, or 47.1 mph at 5,000 rpm on 83.9. Those two cruise settings are worth 333 and 336 statute miles off 90 percent of the tank. The cruise band is where this hull earns its range; wide open throttle is where it spends it.

One thing to settle on the build sheet. Tiara's specification block gives fuel capacity as 660 gallons and the performance report header for the same hull says 665. Confirm the tank size on the boat you are buying, then get observed burn at your intended rpm in writing at sea trial and work your own numbers off the figure you confirmed.

Tiara Yachts 46 LS Overview

The 46 LS measures 46'6" overall including the integrated platform, on a 13'9" beam and a 4'3" draft, 27,500 lbs dry, carrying 660 gallons of fuel and 21 degrees of deadrise at the transom.

Three aft cockpit modules let the back of the boat be set up for entertaining, for adventure or for plain relaxation, and a portside terrace opens it to the water. Sliding glass doors close the cockpit off when the weather turns - the move that separates this boat from an open dayboat.

Performance & Handling

Triple Mercury 600 V12 Verados, with joystick piloting, twin Garmin touchscreens and EmpirBus digital switching at the helm. Tiara's own test recorded 59.0 mph at 6,245 rpm and idle-to-30 mph in 9.08 seconds, at 35,187 lbs as tested with the optional gyro fitted.

Optimum cruise is 41.1 mph at 4,500 rpm or 47.1 mph at 5,000 rpm, worth 333 and 336 statute miles on 90 percent of the tank. Burn was 74.0 and 83.9 gallons per hour at those settings, against 148.6 wide open - the cruise band is where this hull earns its range. Get observed burn at your intended rpm in writing at sea trial.

Interior & Accommodations

Below deck the 46 LS has a forward berth, a mid-cabin stateroom and a well-appointed head, with expanded prep space and pantry amenities alongside them.

The galley sits mid-cockpit rather than below, so cooking happens where people already are. With the sliding doors shut the cockpit becomes an enclosed room; open, it runs straight out to the portside terrace.

Market Position

The 46 LS sits between the 43 LS and the 56 LS in Tiara's Luxury Sport line, stepping from the 43's twin engines to triples and from 400 gallons to 660.

Against Tiara's Luxury Express boats it keeps the cockpit as the main room instead of putting a salon over it. The enclosing glass doors and the mid-cockpit galley are how the 46 LS buys weather protection without becoming an express cruiser.

Who the 46 LS Is For

Buy the 46 LS if you run long days offshore and want sleeping aboard as an option rather than the thing the boat is designed around - 59.0 mph on tap, 336 statute miles at a 47.1 mph cruise, and a cockpit you can shut.

If 43 feet and twin engines cover your run, the 43 LS does the same job on a 400-gallon tank. If you want two staterooms with private heads and a salon above them, the 48 LE is the Luxury Express answer at a similar length.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the cruising range of the Tiara 46 LS?

336 statute miles at the 47.1 mph cruise setting and 333 statute miles at 41.1 mph, both worked on 90 percent of the tank. Burn was 83.9 and 74.0 gallons an hour at those settings against 148.6 wide open, so the cruise band is where this hull earns its range.

Can the Tiara 46 LS cockpit be closed in?

Yes. Sliding glass doors close the cockpit off when the weather turns, which is the move that separates the 46 LS from an open dayboat. Open, the cockpit runs straight out to the portside terrace, and three aft modules let the back of the boat be set up for entertaining, for adventure or for plain relaxation.

What is below deck on the Tiara 46 LS?

A forward berth, a mid-cabin stateroom and a well-appointed head, with expanded prep space and pantry amenities alongside them. The galley itself sits mid-cockpit rather than below, so the cooking happens where people already are.

How fast is the Tiara 46 LS?

59.0 mph at 6,245 rpm on triple Mercury 600 Verado V12s, from Tiara's own test on the St. Lucie River at Stuart, Florida at 35,187 lbs as tested with four aboard and the optional gyro fitted. Wide open throttle burn is 148.6 gallons an hour. That 59.0 mph is the fastest published figure in Tiara's Luxury Sport line.
