Dock & Dine in Nanaimo
Dining in Nanaimo works from your berth, not from a guest dock. The waterfront restaurants here are on or beside the docks, but boat access is arranged by phone rather than set out in published terms — which makes the practical route the one the port is built for.
The Dinghy Dock Pub on Protection Island is the one everyone means. It is a genuine boat-access pub — it confirms on its own site that you arrive by ferry, kayak or private boat — and dock length, overnight policy and rates are settled on the call. Come in by tender, or ring ahead if you want to bring the boat.
Penny's Palapa and Trollers Fish & Chips are both floating restaurants at 10 Wharf Street inside the basin — the same address as the fuel barge — and both are reached on foot from a berth. Lighthouse Bistro lists ferry, seaplane, hotel and shopping access. Carlos O'Bryan's is at Stones.
So the working instruction is simple: take a berth at the Boat Basin or W.E. Mills, or a buoy at Mark Bay, and go ashore. Downtown Nanaimo starts at the top of the basin ramp, and the Saysutshun dock puts you on a park island half a mile from it.
The chart below reads the staging port rather than a dining strip — the gate at Dodd, the two port facilities, the fuel barge, and the mooring park across the way.
