It is Friday at three. You close the laptop, grab the cooler, and text the group: dock in twenty, and we sleep aboard tonight.
That is the promise of the Tiara 43 LE, and the reason it holds is not the top speed. It is that two staterooms, a private head and a proper galley come on a 43'6" hull you can run yourself, fuel at an outboard dock and service from the transom.
Who It's For
The 43 LE makes sense for the owner-operator who has outgrown a thirty-something center console and has no interest in hiring crew. You want a real head and shower for your family. You want friends to stay the weekend rather than the afternoon. And you want to leave when you decide to leave.
This is a boat for people who use it hard - who are running it dozens of days a year rather than admiring it in a slip. It is also for the angler who is tired of choosing between fishability and livability, because the Adventure Module swaps the standard Buffet Lounge for fold-down lounge seating, a coil-wrapped freezer tank and a livewell.
If overnighting is going to stay the exception, the 43 LS is the same length with the volume up on deck. That is the honest fork.
Design and Layout: One Room, Then the Water
Most 43-foot express cruisers give you a cockpit, a salon, and a compromise between them. The 43 LE gives you a bulkhead that gets out of the way.
The salon opens to the cockpit through a sliding glass door and an electrically actuated glass window. With both open, the galley, the dinette and the cockpit read as a single room, and the person at the helm is part of the conversation rather than shouting into it. Then the hullside terrace folds down and that room extends to water level.
The cockpit itself is a decision made at order. The rotating Buffet Lounge comes with a high-gloss table, an electric grill and countertop. The Adventure Module gives the same real estate over to fishing. Neither is an afternoon's reconfiguration, so choose against how you actually use a cockpit.
Below deck there are two staterooms and one head: a private owner's stateroom forward, a mid-cabin guest stateroom, and the head private to that space. The atrium and steps lead up to a fully equipped, centralized galley in the salon - cooking happens where people already are.
A transforming portside companion seat adjusts to add dining seating, and the dinette converts to a berth, so the sleeping count moves with the weekend rather than being fixed by the two cabins.
Performance: 540 Gallons and What They Buy
The 43 LE runs twin Mercury 600 Verado V12s through Mercury digital throttle and shift, with joystick piloting and Garmin navigation at the helm.
Tiara tested the boat on Lake Michigan off Holland at 29,775 lbs as tested - full fuel, water and waste, three people and 750 lbs of gear aboard. Wide open throttle was 51.4 mph at 6,158 rpm on 100.5 gallons per hour. Idle to 30 mph took 10.8 seconds.
The two optimum cruise settings are the useful numbers. 35.3 mph at 4,500 rpm on 56.8 gph, worth 302 statute miles. 40.9 mph at 5,000 rpm on 63.8 gph, worth 312. Both are calculated on 90 percent of the 540-gallon tank, so a reserve is already inside them - and the faster of the two is the longer-legged one.
The hull carries 21 degrees of deadrise at the transom. That is enough vee to cut a short, steep chop without giving up the efficiency that makes those cruise numbers work.
What to Settle at Sea Trial
Open the bulkhead. Slide the door, drop the window, deploy the terrace, and stand in the resulting space with the number of people you actually carry. That system is most of what you are paying for over a simpler boat.
Pick the cockpit module deliberately, and run the boat at the rpm you expect to hold. Get observed burn in writing and work your own range off 540 gallons - Tiara's sheet describes one hull, on one day, at one weight.
Where to Start
The 43 LE sits between the 39 LE and the 48 LE in Tiara's Luxury Express line. The disappearing bulkhead that blends salon and cockpit is on the 43 and the 48; the fold-down terrace is on all three.
