The real objection to owning a catamaran is not the price, the systems or the sailing. It is the beam. A sixty-foot Sunreef Power is ten and a half metres wide, and the moment you start calling marinas, your options collapse.
The ULTIMA range exists to solve that, and the 55 is where it starts.
Five Point Six Metres
The Sunreef ULTIMA 55 is 16.6 m (55 ft) overall on a 5.6 m (18 ft 4 in) beam. That is narrower than plenty of monohulls of the same length. It will take an ordinary berth.
And it still draws 0.9 m — two feet eleven inches — which is the shallowest figure Sunreef publishes across all fourteen models we cover. You get catamaran stability at rest, catamaran shallow-water access, and a berth footprint that does not require a phone call and a favour.
The Best-Documented Drivetrain in the Range
Here is the other thing that makes the 55 unusual. Sunreef publishes its hybrid system in full: 2 × e-350 kW electric motors alongside 2 × 600 hp, fed by a 220 kWh battery bank at 625 V. The classic version runs Volvo Penta D6 with IPS 650 pod drives.
That is the most completely specified electric drivetrain anywhere in Sunreef's lineup. On most models the Eco version is described rather than quantified. Here you get motor output, diesel output and battery capacity together.
Who It's For
This is a coastal boat, and you should buy it as one. Water capacity is 300 l — a day boat's tankage, not a cruiser's. Fuel is 1,500 l.
Buy it if you want catamaran stability and a sub-metre draft in a package that will fit your marina, and your use is days out, weekends, tenders and water toys. Do not buy it expecting to disappear for a month; that is what the Eco Sail and Eco Power ranges are for.
Design and Layout
The ULTIMA trades beam for access, and the interior reflects that. At 5.6 m across this is not the full-beam saloon of a 60 Sunreef Power — it is a sleeker, lower boat built around the cockpit and the helm.
Sunreef equips the range with folding bulwark platforms that widen the aft deck at anchor, custom sea-stairs, smart stowage for water toys, ultralight flexible solar panels and non-toxic bottom paint. No cabin or head count is published.
Sunreef also builds a BRABUS ULTIMA 55, a separate collaboration model with its own styling.
What Sunreef Does Not Tell You
Sunreef publishes no speed figure for any boat in its current range. No top speed, no cruise speed, no range — not on this model and not on any of the other thirteen we cover. That is unusual. Most yards at this level publish at least a cruise figure, and several publish full performance tables.
We have left those rows empty on the specification table rather than filling them with an estimate. If a broker or a listing hands you a precise Sunreef speed, ask where it came from, because it did not come from the shipyard.
The same applies to displacement, which Sunreef publishes for nothing in the range, and to draft, which it publishes for only three of the fourteen models. Get the numbers you need in writing before you sign a build contract. Sunreef will provide them — they simply are not on the website.
There is an extra edge to that on this boat: Sunreef's own pages describe the ULTIMA range as solar speed boats, and then publish no speed figure for any of them. If pace is the reason you are interested, that is a conversation to have with the shipyard directly.
Where to Start
The ULTIMA 55 is the most accessible boat in Sunreef's cleverest range. Buy it for the berth footprint and the 0.9 m draft.
Step up to the ULTIMA 66 if you want the same idea with real tankage, crew accommodation and eight guests aboard. Step across to the 60 Sunreef Power if deck space matters more than marina access.
