You want one boat that ends the compromise: the volume, the crew arrangement and the outdoor living of a proper yacht, without giving up the reason you fell for catamarans in the first place — a rig, a flat wake and the freedom to cross an ocean under sail. That is the owner Lagoon drew the Eighty 2 for. She is the new flagship of the yard's sailing range, revealed at the 2025 Cannes Boat Show, and she is genuinely new: early hulls are only now reaching their owners, so most of what is available to study today is Lagoon's own renders and general-arrangement drawings rather than dockside photography.
Here is what the yard actually publishes about her, and what each piece means for the way you would use her.
Who the Eighty 2 Is For
She suits the owner stepping up from a 50- to 60-foot cruising cat who has run out of boat rather than out of enthusiasm. Lagoon rates her for 8 to 16 berths across four to six cabins, with dedicated crew accommodation on top of that — so she works for an owner who cruises with family and friends aboard for weeks at a stretch and wants a captain and a stew running the boat.
She also suits the owner who wants a genuine sailing yacht at this size. Lagoon quotes roughly 338 m² (about 3,638 sq ft) of upwind sail area. That is a real rig, not a token one, and the whole layout is organised around using it.
Accommodation: Four to Six Cabins, Three Published Layouts
Lagoon publishes three interior configurations for the Eighty 2: four cabins with the galley down, five cabins with the galley down, and five cabins with the galley up. The choice is the single biggest decision you will make about how the boat feels day to day.
Galley down puts food preparation and service traffic into a hull and leaves the whole main deck as guest space — the right answer if you are running crew and want the saloon to stay a saloon. Galley up puts the cook in the middle of the conversation, which is what many owner-operators want and what makes the boat feel more like a home and less like a hotel.
The owner's cabin is the centrepiece either way: a king-sized berth with a sea view, a private terrace, and dedicated space for relaxation rather than a bed wedged into a hull. Lagoon's interior design for the Eighty 2 is by Nauta Design.
Deck and Living Spaces
The flybridge runs to more than 50 m² and carries twin helms and solar panels. Lagoon deliberately leaves much of it unfurnished at the design stage so it can be laid out to suit the owner — dining, sunbathing, a shaded lounge, or some combination.
Aft, the swim platform deploys to as much as 22 m², effectively extending the cockpit down to the water. It is designed to take a tender or a jet ski and to work as a swimming and diving platform when the toys are away. This is the feature that changes how the boat is used at anchor more than any other.
Inside, the saloon has flush floorboards so there is no step between cockpit and interior, and the glazing is drawn for a 360-degree view. Lagoon describes the interior language as borrowed from seaside villas: horizontal, open, and turned outward.
Under Sail and Under Power
The Eighty 2 is a sailing catamaran and should be judged as one. Twin helms sit on the flybridge, giving the person driving a commanding view over both bows and the full sail plan overhead.
Under power she carries twin John Deere N5-230 diesels, 230 HP each. Lagoon's published figures are a maximum of 11 knots under power and a 9-10 knot cruise under sail or power. Note what is not on that list: Lagoon publishes no range figure for the Eighty 2, and we are not going to invent one for you. Fuel capacity is 740 gal (2,800 L) in two tanks, which is a large reserve for a sailing catamaran that is meant to make its miles with the engines off.
Design, Build and Systems
Naval architecture is by VPLP Design, with exterior design credited to VPLP Design and Patrick Le Quément, and the interior to Nauta Design. That is a well-established team at Lagoon and it shows in the boat's proportions.
Tankage is split for redundancy: fresh water 2 x 800 L (422 gal total), fuel 2 x 1,400 L (740 gal total), grey water 2 x 300 L. CE certification is A: 14 / B: 18 / C: 24 / D: 40 — meaning she is certified for ocean passages with 14 people aboard.
Living With Her: The Honest Trade-Offs
Draft. At 6'3" (1.90 m) she draws considerably more than her power-catamaran sister, the Eighty 3. Some of the thinnest Bahamian and Exuma anchorages that a shoal-draft cat can slip into are simply not available to you.
Air draft. 36.6 m / 120'1". Fixed bridges are out. If your cruising plans include the Intracoastal Waterway or any canal system, plan the rig around it from the start.
Displacement. 136,911 lbs (62,100 kg) unladen. This is a comfortable, stable, forgiving platform, not a performance multihull. Judge her on how well she carries a fully loaded boat across a passage, not on polars.
Beam. 36'1" (11.00 m). You are booking end-ties and multihull berths, and you are booking them early. Factor marina access into every itinerary.
Crew. With 8-16 berths and dedicated crew quarters, Lagoon has designed a boat that assumes professional help. She can be handled shorthanded by an experienced couple in settled conditions, but the layout — particularly galley-down — is built around having crew aboard.
She is brand new. There is no fleet history yet, no five-year-old hulls to survey, and no owner community with a decade of accumulated fixes. That is the trade you accept for being early on a flagship.

The Eighty 2 is the sailing half of Lagoon's new flagship pair. The three published layouts let you choose between a crewed yacht and an owner-run one before a single mould is opened, the flybridge and the deploying swim platform are where you will spend the days, and the rig is the reason you would choose her over the Eighty 3.
