By the second week with guests aboard, you learn what a boat is actually short of. It is rarely speed, and it is rarely range. It is somewhere for people to be that is not where everybody else already is. The Horizon FD100 is drawn around that problem at 101'7", and the first thing to understand about it is that it is one boat sold in two shapes.
One Hull, Two Superstructures
Horizon publishes a single specification table for the FD100, with the Tri-Deck and the Skyline printed side by side. Every mechanical row is identical: 101'7" overall, 23'9" of beam, 6'2" of draft, 282,190 lbs of displacement, twin Caterpillar C32A diesels rated 1,600 hp each, twin Kohler generators, 4,000 gallons of fuel and 400 gallons of water. The two names describe the top of the boat. They do not describe two different boats.
The Tri-Deck carries a lightweight open flybridge — helm and seating — above a bridge deck with a forward wheelhouse, an interior skylounge with dayhead and bar, and a jacuzzi aft. The Skyline replaces that with a large wheelhouse and an enclosed skylounge aft, plus deck space for entertaining. Open air on top, or conditioned volume on top.
That is a useful thing to know when you shop, because it turns the decision into a question about how you live rather than a question about what the boat can do. Where you cruise usually settles it: an open flybridge is the better room in the Bahamas in March and the harder one to use in the Mediterranean in August.
One caveat about the pictures. Every photograph on this page is the Tri-Deck. Horizon has not published Skyline photography — that configuration appears in general arrangement drawings, and the yard's own premiere video covers the first Skyline's debut. If the Skyline is the one you want, work from the drawings rather than from these images.
Who It Is For
This is a boat for weeks rather than weekends, run with professional crew. Three levels means people can genuinely get away from each other: someone reading on the bridge deck, someone else in the saloon, nobody negotiating over the same seat on day five. That is the practical difference between a boat a family uses twice a year and one it lives on.
It is also a boat for an owner who already knows what they use. If you have run an 80-footer and found the constraint was room for the people aboard rather than speed or range, the FD100 answers exactly that question and very little else.
It is not an owner-operator boat. Horizon puts the crew accommodation aft with a mess sized past what a 101-footer usually gets, and the whole layout assumes those cabins are occupied.
The Main Deck Is the Argument
The full-beam master sits forward on the main deck. That one decision is what makes the boat feel longer than it measures: the owner's suite gets the full 23'9" of beam and the best light on the boat, and it competes with nothing for space, because the guest cabins are a deck below it.
Behind it the saloon runs into a galley built around a central island counter. The interior reads light rather than formal, worked in pale oak instead of the darker two-tone finishes the yard used on earlier boats. Aft at the waterline sits a fully equipped beach club, which changes how the boat gets used at anchor more than any other single feature on it.
How Many Cabins? Read the Drawing.
Here is the one place to be careful, and it is worth stating plainly, because Horizon's own page says both things. The specification table lists four guest cabins and two crew. The description on that same page counts five staterooms, including the full-beam main-deck master, and puts crew quarters for four aft.
Read the FD100 as four to five guest cabins depending on how the main-deck master is specified for your hull, and get the general arrangement for that specific hull in writing before you fall in love with a layout. This is not unique to the FD100 — the same disagreement sits on the FD80 and the RP110 — but it is exactly the kind of detail that is easy to skim past and expensive to discover late.
The Hull, and the Numbers Horizon Does Not Print
FD stands for fast displacement, and the hull form is the whole reason the FD line exists. A fast-displacement hull is not trying to plane, so it is not spending fuel to hold itself up. It carries far more interior volume per foot than a planing hull of the same length, and it is drawn to run efficiently at displacement speeds rather than to chase a top-end number. That is the honest performance story on this boat, and it is structural rather than statistical — it is why a 101-footer here reads like a much longer one inside.
What Horizon does not publish matters just as much. The yard's specification sheet stops at the engine package. There is no top speed, no cruise speed, no range and no fuel-consumption figure for the FD100 anywhere in its own material. Confident versions of all of those circulate anyway, and you will be quoted them. They do not come from Horizon.
Two reasons to treat them carefully. Many delivered hulls carry a different engine package from the one Horizon currently publishes, so a performance figure taken off a specific boat may describe a different boat from the one you are being offered. And a range figure is a fuel-burn figure in disguise: it moves with load, sea state and how the boat is actually run. Ask for observed burn at your intended cruising speed, in writing, and treat everything else as a claim to verify on the water.
Where It Sits in Horizon's Range
Below it, the FD80 keeps the same fast-displacement logic in a boat still sized for an experienced owner without a permanent crew list. Alongside it, the RP110 answers the same volume question with a raised pilothouse instead of a third level, and more length to do it with.
Against 100-foot boats generally, the FD100 argues volume per foot. It is a tri-deck at a length where a flybridge is the more common answer, and it carries the crew and utility spaces that separate a boat you cruise for two weeks from one you use for a weekend.
Where to Start
Settle the configuration first, because it is the only real fork: open flybridge, or enclosed skylounge, on a hull that is otherwise identical either way. Then get the general arrangement for the specific hull, resolve the cabin count against that drawing rather than against the brochure, and put observed fuel burn on the sea-trial list.
