The 57Steel is Sanlorenzo’s answer to buyers who want ocean-crossing capability without stepping up to a 200-plus-footer. The steel hull and displacement design are not compromises. They’re deliberate choices that prioritize range and volume over speed. Twin CAT 3512C diesels are industrial-grade engines designed for continuous operation at 12 to 13 knots, and the 21,000-gallon fuel capacity gives you legitimate 4,000-nautical-mile range. This is not a yacht that will impress anyone at the dock with its top speed. It will impress you 1,500 miles offshore when you still have half your fuel.

This yacht is for buyers who have ruled out full custom but still want a serious ocean platform. If you’re planning to cross the Atlantic under your own power, or if you need to reposition between the Med and Caribbean without relying on commercial shipping, the 57Steel makes sense. It does not make sense if you’re staying within 200 miles of shore or if you prioritize speed over range. The 16-knot top speed is adequate for coastal cruising, but you will not outrun weather. You will need to plan around it.

Resale on the 57Steel will depend on how the charter market treats the first few hulls. Virtuosity went straight into charter at $440,000 per week, which is strong positioning for a 185-footer. If the yacht performs well in charter and Sanlorenzo continues to deliver hulls on schedule, resale should hold steady in the $45 to $55 million range for well-maintained examples. The risk is that Sanlorenzo builds too many hulls too quickly and floods the market. Four hulls sold before first delivery suggests strong demand, but watch the delivery schedule over the next 24 months.
