Pershing 9X Expert Opinion: 42 Knots, 380 Miles, Zero Compromise

Twin 2,638-hp MTUs and Arneson surface drives deliver the speed to rewrite your weekend plans. Full-beam master amidships, four guest cabins, and joystick control make this the most capable 92-footer on the water.

The 9X represents Pershing’s clearest statement on what a performance yacht should be. Carbon fiber construction, vinyl ester resin, and epoxy composite layup keep displacement at 149,914 pounds dry. That’s light for a 92-footer, and it shows in the handling. The MTU 16V 2000 M96L engines are the only powerplant option, which tells you everything about Pershing’s priorities. They’re not building a yacht for every buyer. They’re building it for the buyer who wants this specific performance envelope. The surface drives add complexity, but the trade-off in speed, efficiency, and shallow draft is worth it if you’re actually using the boat.

This is the right yacht for the owner who’s been in the 70-to-80-foot range and wants more capability without sacrificing speed. It’s not for the first-time buyer stepping up from a 50-footer. The systems are sophisticated, the operating costs are real, and the performance demands respect. If you’re planning to run it owner-operated, you need experience with joystick docking and surface-drive handling. If you’re hiring crew, budget for professionals who understand high-performance yachts. The 9X rewards competence and punishes carelessness. That’s not a criticism. That’s the point.

Resale on Pershing models in the 90-foot range has been strong, particularly for well-maintained examples with documented service history. The 9X benefits from being part of the X Generation lineup, which has established itself as the performance benchmark in the Ferretti Group portfolio. Expect depreciation in line with other Italian performance yachts—15 to 20 percent in the first two years, then stabilizing if the boat is maintained correctly. The key is keeping up with the maintenance schedule. Surface drives and high-output MTUs don’t tolerate deferred service. Budget accordingly, and the 9X will hold value better than most yachts in this class.
