It is half past seven on a Saturday morning and you are backing out of your slip in Stuart. Four Mercury V12s idle behind you, barely audible over the conversation. Your guests are split between the bow lounge and the aft cockpit, and the argument is whether to run north for the morning or anchor at the sandbar by noon. You throttle up and the argument ends, because you will do both.
That is the Tiara 56 LS in its natural state. It is the largest outboard-powered boat Tiara has built - 56'2" overall with the integrated platform, 16'0" of beam, 39,600 lbs dry, and 2,400 horsepower on the transom.
Who It's For
The 56 LS is for the owner who wants outboards at 56 feet and refuses to camp. Four engines you can service on any lift, two cabins with their own heads, and 1,000 gallons under the sole. That is a boat you take somewhere and stay on, not a day boat with a berth in it.
It also fits someone who runs the boat from the helm and still wants to be part of the day. Pilot house doors to port and starboard, a walk-around deck and a bow lounge mean the driver is three steps from everyone else the entire time.
What it does not fit is a family that needs three cabins - two staterooms and two heads is the layout - or an owner shopping on fuel burn. Cruise is 92.8 gallons an hour at 33.6 mph and 127.7 at 44.4. That is what 2,400 horsepower costs, and the 1,000-gallon tank exists to make it usable.
Design and Layout: The Deck Is the Reason
Walk aboard and the deck is the argument. It walks around completely, and the pilot house doors either side of the helm are what make that matter: you step out of the driving seat straight onto the side deck and forward to the bow lounge without crossing anyone's conversation. On a boat this size, that keeps a group together instead of splitting it into a helm party and a cockpit party.
Twin terraces fold down to widen the cockpit and open it to the water on both sides. Like the rest of the current range, the aft cockpit is a module chosen at order - an adventure setup aimed at fishing, or a lounge and galley setup aimed at entertaining - so the working end of the boat matches how you use it. Multiple social zones and the galley keep the crowd on deck rather than down in the cabin.
Below deck are two staterooms and two private heads, sleeping four. On a 56-footer that is a choice rather than a limitation, and it is what the outboard architecture buys: the volume that would go to a third cabin and an engine room goes to living space and to the tank instead. Both cabins having their own head is the arrangement that decides whether a boat this size actually gets used for weekends away with another couple aboard.
The Garmin marine navigation package is integrated at the helm, and the hardtop stands 11'0" above the waterline.
Performance: What 1,000 Gallons Is For
Tiara tested the 56 LS on Biscayne Bay at Coconut Grove, Florida, on 18 February 2025 in a ten-knot easterly and a foot of chop, with all tanks full, three aboard and a weight as tested of 51,350 lbs.
Wide open throttle is 54.4 mph at 6,000 rpm on 206.5 gallons per hour. Idle to 30 mph takes 10.1 seconds.
The top of the cruise band is the interesting part of the sheet. At 4,000 rpm the boat runs 33.6 mph on 92.8 gph for 283 nautical miles. At 5,000 rpm it runs 44.4 mph on 127.7 gph for 272. Ten and a half extra miles an hour costs eleven nautical miles of range.
That is a flat enough trade to change how you plan. On most hulls this size the fast cruise setting is the one you talk yourself out of; here the tank absorbs it. Which is why the 1,000 gallons matter more on this boat than the raw top speed does - they buy you the option to use the speed.
Sound at the helm is 70.9 dB(A) at 4,000 rpm, rising to 76.4 at wide open throttle - a quad-outboard result that owes as much to the hull and hardtop as to Mercury's sound-dampening on the V12.
Transom deadrise is 21 degrees, a full seven degrees more vee than Tiara's inboard EX boats carry. That is the specification to hold onto when you compare this to a soft-riding cruiser: the 56 LS is drawn to take a chop at forty-plus, and the trade is a hull that leans on its power to stay on plane rather than loafing efficiently in the low teens.
What to Settle Before You Order
Choose the aft module deliberately. The adventure module makes a fishing cockpit; the entertaining module makes a lounge and buffet. It defines the aft third of the boat and it is specified at order, not swapped later.
Run the boat at both published cruise settings and get observed burn in writing at each. Tiara's range figures are its own, computed on 90 percent of total fuel and valid for that hull on that date - your season gets planned off your numbers and 1,000 gallons.
And use the pilot house doors underway, with people aboard, at speed. That is the feature the whole deck plan is built around.
Where to Start
Inside Tiara's range, the honest fork is the EX 54: two feet shorter, twin diesel pods, three staterooms, and a very different top speed. The 56 LS trades a cabin for the speed, the tank and outboards you can service at any dock. Neither is the upgrade of the other.
Where the 56 LS argues is the combination: outboard simplicity and a 1,000-gallon tank, a full walk-around deck with pilot house doors, and a published test sheet that shows what it does at every 500 rpm.
