Light displacement is 14,568 lb against 21,572 lb loaded, with 880 lb added to either figure for the fully enclosed version. Fuel is 330 gallons in independent aluminum tanks and fresh water is 52. Standard power is twin Mercury Verado V8 300s with joystick piloting.
It sits between the 32 and the 45 in Aquila's sport line, and the two-cabin layout is what defines it.
Who It's For
This is the boat for the group that has outgrown one cabin. Two couples, or a family that has reached the stage where the kids want a door. Each cabin has its own en-suite head with a shower and its own lockable companionway hatch, so nobody crosses anyone else's space to reach a bathroom.
It also suits the owner whose days run long. Shade, a galley on deck, a swim platform and a forward cockpit that seats eight before it converts into two sunbeds — those are what make a twelve-hour day pleasant instead of a test of endurance.
It is more boat than an owner who only wants a day platform needs. If one cabin is enough and you would rather have the shallower draft and the smaller footprint, the 32 Sport is the sensible stop.
Design and Layout: Volume Where You Use It
A 14'7" beam on a 36-foot hull is the specification that produces everything else. The galley sits to starboard on deck with a Corian surface, a 3.0 cu ft fridge-freezer, a wash basin and AC sockets. A settee and folding table sit to port. Nobody has to go below to make lunch, which is the single layout decision that keeps a group together.
Forward, the cockpit seats eight and converts into two large sunbeds. Aft, the swim platform becomes the centre of gravity on a hot day.
Below, each hull holds a cabin with its own en-suite head and shower. The heads carry Corian basins, teak shower grates, fresh-water electric flushing toilets, opening hull ports and pull-down blinds — compartments with daylight and ventilation in them rather than sealed cubicles.
Aquila builds the boat two further ways off the same hull. The cruiser package closes the salon and galley in with a three-panel tempered glass slider and softer trim. The fishing and diving version adds a livewell, a fish box, rod holders, dive tank storage and an integrated dive ladder. Both come off the standard hull, so the mission is a specification decision rather than a different boat — worth knowing before you decide the 36 is not configured the way you need it.
Power and the Hydro Glide Foil
Standard propulsion is twin Mercury Verado V8 300s with joystick piloting control and a 4-inch VesselView display. Twin Verado V10 400s are the option.
The Hydro Glide foil is the more interesting box to tick. Aquila's own published claim for it is a 40 percent improvement in fuel efficiency, measured against a competing 36-foot power catamaran. That is an efficiency claim, it is Aquila's rather than ours, and it says nothing about how fast the boat goes.
On speed, Aquila publishes nothing at all — no top figure, no cruise figure, no range, foil or no foil. The test numbers that circulate are for the foil-equipped boat and do not describe the standard specification either. If efficiency is the reason you are looking at the foil, ask for observed figures in writing on both configurations, at the load you will actually run.
The 2'0" draft is the figure that changes the cruising map. It is what lets a boat with two en-suite cabins sit in an anchorage that a monohull of similar volume cannot enter.
Ownership: What to Confirm Before You Order
Outboards keep servicing simple, and access is from the transom rather than through the boat. The shallow draft widens your choice of yards too, because a hull that floats in two feet is one that more lifts and more ramps can handle.
The beam is the planning item. At 14'7" the 36 Sport needs a wide slip, and marinas that assign and bill by the slip rather than by the foot will price it accordingly. Confirm width and billing before you commit to a berth.
Certification is the number to load the boat by: CE Category B for 8 people offshore, Category C for 18 coastal, Category D for 26 inland. Those three figures, with their categories attached, are what should govern how many people go aboard for what kind of trip.
And decide on the enclosed version early. It adds 880 lb and it changes the boat from an open sport cat into something you can run in weather. It is not a retrofit.
Where to Start
The 36 Sport is two private cabins, two en-suite heads and a deck built for a long day, on a hull that still draws two feet. It is the step in Aquila's sport line where two couples stop sharing a bathroom, and for most owners that is the reason they land on it rather than the 32.
If it is on your list, go aboard with the people you actually cruise with. Open both cabins, open both heads, and decide whether the split works for your group before you talk about anything else.
